Discharge Instructions – Fat Grafting

  • Post op care after fat grafting:

  • Breast injection site instructions:

    • Some bruising and swelling is normal.
    • Only mild discomfort should be expected.
    • Wear a compression bra or wrap breasts with a 6” ACE bandage for the first 5-7 days after surgery.
    • Call the office for signs of infection: redness, warmth, or swelling that usually starts 5-10 days after surgery.

    Harvest site instructions:

    • Moderate bruising and swelling is normal.
    • Moderate discomfort is normal and may last 1-2 weeks.
    • If large volume of fat was harvested compression of the site is recom-mended with either an ACE bandage or a compression garment – this is not mandatory. Continue compression for 1-2 weeks after surgery.

    General instructions:

    • Ok to shower, do not bath until cleared by the doctor.
    • If skin glue or tape is used on the incisions, leave the incisions open to air and leave the glue or tape in place until it falls off.
    • Avoid strenuous activity for the first week.
    • Avoid NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naprosyn, aspirin) for 72 hours.
    • Take an over-the-counter stool softener (ex. Colace) while taking nar-cotic pain medicine.
    • If constipation becomes an issue take Milk of Magnesia or Miralax until bowel function normalizes. Both can purchased over-the-counter.
